JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Optimism is spreading about what Shahid Khan can do for the River City.
Khan even says he's going to be spending a ton of time here, building relationships and perhaps expanding his businesses. "Jacksonville has a lot going for it," said Khan.
Fans and the city have big questions, including will he keep the team here and will he expand any of his business to bring more jobs. Khan says he is committed to Jacksonville. "I got my big break in business in Jacksonville by accident with Toyota. I'm excited to go back and visit with them and see what makes sense," said Khan.
Mayor Alvin Brown feels confident about Khan as the new Jags owner. "I hope he brings five thousand manufacturing jobs and I want him to buy a home downtown so he can build downtown, live, work and shop downtown," said Brown.
Fans like Gerry Doyle are optimistic too. "Anything he brings with as much economic revenue to the city, we should be fighting tooth and nail to keep it," said Doyle.
We caught up with fans buying up plenty of Jags gear at Sports Mania. "I think it's exciting. It's brought excitement to the city. Everyone seems all pumped up about it," said fan Amy Blumstein.
There's even a new shirt in Khan's honor, with of course his famous mustache. While he does have plans to buy a house in Jacksonville, and be a part of the community, fans say just this sale already has them pumped for next season. "It's going to infuse new blood and revitalize energy into the city," said Doyle.
There is only one home game left to go in the season on New Years Day. There's a big push now to sell out the stadium to say thank you to Wayne and Delores Weaver and send them out in style.
