JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Shad Khan is elevating himself on the international stage. He has announced that he'll be the new owner of Fulham Football Club in England.

Action News spoke with city leaders who say Khan will also elevate the River City on the world stage.

Shad Khan has done it again and this time he's taking his passion for sports global.

The local mogul has been hailed a leader, a visionary and now that he's the new owner of the Fulham Football Club in London, a time-tested team in England's Barclays Premier League, Khan's notoriety will spread worldwide.
It's something that American Football fans are glad to see here in Jacksonville.

"It puts jacksonville in the spotlight at the same time," said soccer fan Landon Harris.

"It can only help our city grow, get Jacksonville even further on the map and bring more sporting events to our city," said Alan Verlander, Executive Director of Sports Entertainment for Jacksonville.

Verlander sees the great possibilities. Action News asked him if it's possible we'll see Khan bring Fulham to Jacksonville for exhibition games.

"He certainly sees the passion of people in Jacksonville for soccer so I think that's a natural, once the ink dries on the contract," said Verlander.

That is exactly what fans are hoping for, especially after Khan's recent announcement to put $63 million in upgrades for Everbank Field.

"I do think there's a possibility with the new vid boards going in and I think it might be a opportunity for Jax soccer fans to get out," said soccer fan, Ian Slaughter.

As for the two organizations...Khan says they will operate as two standalone businesses. Right after the deal was announced Khan sent an email to Jags season ticket holders saying:

"Fulham and the Jaguars each have a great responsibility to their players, fans, partners and communities, and both deserve nothing less than a 100 percent commitment from ownership. "

If the London team plays here at EverBank, we're talking about a major economic boost for the local community.

The Jaguars will also make their first trip across the pond this year.

The team is scheduled to play one regular season game in London for the next four years.

"I'm a lover not a fighter" and it's a proven fact SPORTS of any kind keeps our kids busy and HOPEFULLY out of trouble. Since it seems football has more thugs than wins anymore its time to change up the game! Soccer is a wonderful sport...so don't knock it til you try it. I think we could use a much larger variety of sports here in Jacksonville, kids learn discipline, humility, victory, humbleness, and PRIDE with the hard work of playing, whether they win or lose. There would be LESS thugs in the street in the future if they had a game/practice to go to regularly. I think we need to support ANYBODY that's trying to improve Jax for the future of our kids.
