On Labor Day Monday, I found an ailing cat under our truck. I got it, put in a carrier, brought it into the house, gave it food and water. I kept it overnight in a closed off room. I have 5 rescued cats, so I could not afford to keep this one. I took it to the shelter. Paid the $25 fee, even though it was a stray, but I suppose that off set the cost to euthanize it. It was obvious it was not going to be "saved." This said, the impression I got from the staff, one woman in particular is that they are experiencing major job burn out. It is a tough job, but it is their job. I did not appreciate the attitude that I was trying to dump that poor cat on them. Again, if I could afford it, I would have kept it. At least with the assistance of several agencies there are some of these pets that will be saved and adopted out. One more thing, while I was waiting for the person to do the paperwork, a maintenance guy from an apartment complex walked in and when he saw that it was going to cost him to turn over an abandoned dog, he grumbled about it and left. Gotta wonder what became of that dog and any other pets left by renters. Sad indeed.

How stupid and uncaring can someone be to kill kittens? Perhaps you need bright RED "DO NOT KILL" signs for their cages.
