JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll is not backing down from some serious accusations made by her former aide. Carletha Cole claims that she caught Carroll in a compromising position and may have been romantically involved with a female staffer.

Action News caught up with Carroll in Orange Park Saturday for the opening of a Mitt Romney campaign office. “Usually black women who look like me don't engage in relationships like that,” said Carroll.

The controversial comment is making headlines from coast to coast.

"It points out a lot of fallacies that there's still a lot of stigma and discrimination that LGBT people face,” said Natalie Nguyen.

Natalie Nguyen runs the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender resource center at the University of North Florida. She says the Lt. Governor’s comment is not only insulting, it's also damaging for the state of Florida.

“She's a leader and she's supposed to set an example,” said Nguyen.

At Saturday’s event, Carroll also pointed out that she's the one who has been married for 29 years and her accuser is the one who is single. Carroll said the claims are more than allegations, they are 'outright lies.' Nguyen says that comments like these just give more strength to stereotypes.

NativeJax - You sound like a real God fearing person. Wait if that was the case then you would have COMPASION for your fellow man not just the ones that agree with you. This country was founded by people wanting to be free from RELIGIOUS persecution; but it seems like you want to go back to persecuting people for their beliefs.

Your right, Papakilo, but 'gossip' news get better ratings. The lefties have thrown our Constitution in the trash so us idiot working class Americans can be CONTROLLED by the Dictator in office.

Too bad we permit or accept the media to print and relay unfounded accusations, which just fuel additional unfounded accusations and other individuals to do the same. What happened to "responsibile journalism"? Are we stuck with only those things which seem to berate honorable individuals or sensational, without real "news" value? Where are the reports about our Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the reprocussions of her agreeing to place the U.S. under the United Nations for gun control? Where is the concern and effect for this agreement to "Over Rule" our Second Amendment right to bare arms? Where are the heated discussions of citizens potential to loose this right? Where is the comparison to the efforts and methods the German government used to 'disarm German citizens prior to WWII? The priority news is not what Obama or Romney are saying, it's what is going on with our countries Constitution, Laws, Liberties, and individual rights. Publishing the unfounded rantings which berate honerable individuals, is not worthy of being classified as news.

Why would anybody be offended? She spoke the truth. Oh, I forgot, If it's not politically correct, it's offensive, even if it's the truth. What a dumbed down nation of people we have become....
