LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A man has been arrested after attempting to attack a police officer.
At about 11:10 p.m. Sunday officers were called about a fight in progress in front of the Publix parking lot on U.S. 90. While trying to investigate, a suspect attacked Officer Robert Sepulveda and that man, Sidney D. Williams, was arrested.
Police say Williams, 41, aggressively approached the patrol car yelling at Officer Ivan Useche. Officer Sepulveda asked Williams what was going on and attempted to calm him down.
As Officer Sepulveda was talking to him, Williams began yelling and cursing at him and swinging his arms at him. Officer Sepulveda moved out of his path and Williams ended up in the lane of traffic on U.S. 90 eastbound. Williams was ordered several times to get out of the flow of traffic and in turn, became angrier, yelled more profanities and began swinging his arms violently in an attempt to strike Sepulveda.
Sepulveda took Williams to the ground and attempted to handcuff him but Williams resisted. Williams continued to resist after being handcuffed. Williams was arrested and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center and booked on a $6,000 bond for Assault on an Officer and Resisting an Officer with Violence. While in receiving at CCDC, Williams continued to resist deputies and was tased to gain compliance.
