Lake City man stabbed to death; two people arrested
LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Two people have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in Lake City after an altercation.
At 12:11 a.m. Thursday, Columbia County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a fight in progress at 767 N.W. Amanda St. They found Deeante Gibson on the ground unresponsive with stab wounds to the upper torso. Gibson was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police investigation found there had been a birthday party Wednesday evening at the mobile home and several people stayed late. Around midnight, Julie Jones and Sidney Gibson got into a verbal argument.
As Julie and her son Travon were returning to their home in the park, Sidney and Deeante Gibson followed them. The verbal altercation continued and Sidney punched Julie in the face. Travon Jones tried to help his mother, but was attacked by Deeante Gibson. Travon took out a pocketknife and stabbed Deeante several times. Julie and Travon went home.
The case is being reviewed by the State Attorney's Office.
