BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins and 15-year-old Dominique Lang are behind bars this morning at the Glynn County Jail. They both face murder charges for the death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Antonio's mother, Sherry West, says Antonio was shot in the face last Thursday during an attempted robbery.

Tuesday, Elkins' mother Karimah Elkins and her sister Katrina Elkins, were both arrested on a felony charge of lying to police.

Both women posted bail, but only Karimah was released. Katrina Elkins is now being held on an outstanding probation warrant from Henry County, Georgia.

Up until this point, De'Marquise's aunt Katrina had been his alibi, telling the media that her nephew was with her the morning of the shooting. While investigators won't confirm if she lied about that, they do say something the sisters said while in custody led them to witnesses, which led them to the gun used in the shooting.

Police say they found a handgun in a saltwater pond off Highway 17. The weapon was sent to a crime lab for analysis to determine whether it is the murder weapon.

Elkins is due in court April 5th. He and Lang are each charged with first-degree murder.

If it were pitt bulls that killed that child the state would waste no time in euthanizing them. I would venture to say that the juveniles in this case have just a little more common sense and knowledge of right from wrong than a dog and should be made examples of and be tried and convicted as adults then euthanized not allowed to live on death row and eat up taxpayer money!

It should be first degree murder and attempted murder/assault to the mother. Since they are being tried as an adult then lethal injection should be considered.
