ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla.-- The Players Championship is the place to be each May -- which is why local law enforcement is determined to be proactive. In light of the Boston explosions, security plans are being reviewed.
"We're all in communication. We know the game plan and we work very well together," Mayor Alvin Brown said.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says it's not disclosing its plan, but we do know items will be limited inside the gates -- including large purses or bags, and even umbrellas.
"The same team that we're using here, we have the alliance. The same team we'll use for TPC," Brown said.
In a statement released to Action News, The PGA Tour says: "While we do not comment specifically on security measures, we continually work with our security advisors from the Tour and law enforcement to improve upon and implement procedures that ensure the safety of our fans, athletes and volunteers and we will continue to do so."
Brown, who just signed off on a partnership with TPC this week, says when the big event kicks off in three weeks, the region will be ready.
"This is a continuation of planning and organizing and being focused when we do big events," he said.
The Players Championship is set for May 9-12 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra.
