JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 18-years-old and a whole life in front of her, but Jessica Green didn't live past her teenage years.
She is one of the many unsolved murder victims in our area, but this story isn't about the crime. It's about what her family says led to it.
Jessica was shot inside her own Westside home. Her killer has never been found.
Now, her mother wants her landlord to pay for the crime. In a lawsuit obtained by Action News, the mother says her daughter's landlords didn't tell her about the high crime in the area, and never fixed the back door the suspects broke in through. Neither lawyer is talking on camera, but Robert Cole represents the landlords and said, "It may turn out security had nothing to do with the homicide."
Grace Sheffield didn't know Jessica, but she lives right next to where she was murdered. "It's nice here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else." She says the neighborhood is safe and the landlords are responsive to the tenants needs.
Police won't comment on a motive in Green's death. They do tell us they have several leads in the investigation.
