Lifeguards believe a shark may have bitten a woman's foot at Jax Beach

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A woman is recovering from an apparent shark bite she got while in the waters off Jacksonville Beach.

Lifeguards tell Action News the woman was hurt in the area between 9th and 11th Avenue South. Her foot sustained damage from near the ankle to the toes, including a large chunk of flesh that was taken out.

The injuries were able to be sewn up with stitches. She was treated at a local hospital.
