ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla, -- Fire rescue is working to safe lives this summer by providing certified lifeguards around St. Johns County beaches.

Nearly 16 certified lifeguards will be placed around the beaches. The lifeguards are from United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) and will begin daily assignment from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Swimmers are advised to be near a lifeguard, take swimming lessons, to never swim alone, not fight the current and swim sober.

Fire Rescue personnel will help supplement daily beach staffing and emergency response 24 hours a day through Labor Day weekend.
