JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Firefighters have contained a brush fire near JTB and Kernan.
Flames charred more than 30 acres on Saturday night. The fire is now 100 percent contained. The Florida Forest Service says lightning started the fire.
Smoke from the fire could be seen as far west as the Buckman Bridge. The smoke also choked shoppers at the St. Johns Town Center.
Nearly a dozen crews with JFRD and the Florida Forest Service hustled through a private gate off Kernan to get to the flames.
Several patrol cars from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office also responded as onlookers came and went. A small crowd of people even parked their cars on the side of the road to watch and take pictures. For Breaking News on the go, download the Action News Mobile App.
