JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A woman suspected of being at the wheel of a crash that killed a 5-year-old girl tried to flag down a Florida Highway Patrol trooper who drove by the scene just minutes after the crash, according to the FHP.

Sgt. Dylan Bryan told Action News Thursday afternoon that the trooper saw the woman carrying the young girl in her arms.   The trooper, after realizing what he saw, turned around and returned to the scene to give CPR to the little girl.

Kelsey Johnson, 5, didn't make it.

Bryan said alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

The crash happened on the east beltway of I-295 in the northbound lanes, about two miles north of Philips Highway.

Investigators say 28-year-old Crystle Lynne Heidrick was going north in the emergency lane when it ended.

The FHP said Heidrick turned to the right and over-corrected.  Her car went across the northbound lanes and crashed into a large tree.

Bryan told Action News Heidrick is cooperating with crash investigators and submitted to a blood draw.

As usual the media gets the jump on sensationalizing a story BEFORE the facts are actually presented, thereby making a monster out of the ALLEGED victim who at the current time is not able to respond. This gives the media the right to make up the story based on opinion rather than fact to get higher ratings. Did you lose the fact that a child lost her life here and another person whom you have already condemned from innuendo have suffered plenty without your insensitivity? Perhaps you should wait for the little known idea of FACTS to emerge before you jump up and light that fire! Obviously you care not about the human factor, but about your award winning ways.

Dear Editor: Did you read this before rushing this article online? "Charges are pending per the outcome of the investigation." Would it not be more appropriate to state that police will determine if charges will be filed once the investigation is complete? Also, is this the child’s mother? And if Alcohol and/or Drugs weren't a factor is it really appropriate to release information that you are unsure of? That statement places guilt in everyone’s mind on the driver who is now in critical condition.. ActionNews! First to make a fuss and bringing you potentially incorrect information! Go Jax!...
