Better headline: local black leaders take action..... When Mia Jones says ""When you see a flawed law, fix it," I have to wonder what is talking about? The Zimmerman trial had nothing to do with SYG. The defense was classic self-defense. What, Mia, is the flaw in the law you see exposed by the Zimmerman case? What "fix" do you think is needed? Surely, you don't have a problem with self-defense, do you? Mia's position seems to be a response to Congresswoman Brown's call that there's a problem with SYG and it needs to be fixed--again, without stating what the problem is with a law that didn't apply in the most recent case. Mia, Corrine, this isn't leadership. This is pandering. A responsible leader would admit there is no problem, and encourage teens of all colors that attacking someone isn't an acceptable response to the question (if one were even asked), "Who are you and what are you doing?"
