JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Navy is bracing for billions of dollars in automatic spending cuts if Congress fails to agree on budget cuts by the end of March. You know how to save money? Stop paying almost $600 a month for a single desktop computer(and yes that's every single month for 3 years when they refresh it, so the navy pays $21,600 for a single computer and no it's not a super computer, my laptop at home is better) or stop paying a $100 for changing a single person's name or rank in the GAL. Give the jobs back to the people who should be doing it, the military and stop paying civilians twice as much just because you can say it comes from a different budget!

I should clarify that 3.4 billion is per small combat ship or sub. The Navy needs to stay powerful but maybe we shouldn't be handing out such money when the nation can't afford it. Cut back on ship procurement. Phase out obeslete ships faster, save money by cutting out excessive supply part charges to the Navy, but keep the military strong. I have personally seen navy parts that cost 1500 dollar from a contractor to build but only cost 25 bucks to buy at radio shack and that was in the early 90's can you imagine those same costs now days?

I am Navy veteran maybe some the cuts could come out 3.2 billion cost for ships and subs. As far as China attacking us that is out the question. What more likely would happen is China would seize any weakness on our Navy part to retake Tiwain by force. That might draw us into war with them not much else would. As far as moving carriers from one major east coast seaport don't worry about it. I am sure if terrorist do ever pick a military target and manage to nuke it somehow that Congress and the government will find a way to weasel out the lessons learned in World War II. That lesson was simple do not home port all your capital ships in one port it makes to tempting a target. How easily the US forgets things like that due to politicans wanting to keep their pork in Virgina alone. Same politicans that say they want year after year accountablity in the government.
