JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local child care facility is being shut down following a report of a child being left in a hot car and another child being abused.
The facility is called God's Precious Little Miracles on the Northside. It's located at 1780 West 45th Street, and operated by Church of Miracles, Healing and Prophecy.
The Department of Children & Families says it received a report about a four-year-old boy being abused on Monday. Apparently an employee took the boy and his 4-year-old twin brother home with her to babysit them. One of the boy's had bruises on his body. The state's Child Protection Team checked out both boys. The boy with bruises is now home after being treated at the hospital.
A DCF worker went to the center to investigate on Monday, only to discover that a 2-year-old girl had been left in a hot van for about 20 minutes. She had to go to the hospital to be checked out. The high temperature that day was 93 degrees, according to the First Alert Weather Center.
DCF also learned that many of the employees at the center did not have a background check as required by law.
DCF sent a "cease and desist" order to God's Precious Little Miracles. The facility agreed to close.
"We take these allegations very seriously and we are investigating them thoroughly," said DCF Northeast Regional Director David Abramowitz. "We are working with law enforcement in our investigation."
