JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Action News has learned a devoted father was shot and killed right in front of his two youngest children, ages 2 and 7 months. Twenty-three-year-old Ian Klinedinst was reportedly in his car, stopped on the side of a dirt road near the Avenues.
His fiance says she and their 7-year-old were in the car next to him when a third vehicle they didn't recognize came up behind them. Another friend backs that up.
“From what I heard from people that were there, the car rode by, and it turned around and came back,” said Christina Carlson.
It was just after 9 p.m. when neighbors say they were startled by the sound of gunfire.
“I just heard like five quick shots, like bang bang bang bang bang, and then after that there was like two or three big shots,” said a neighbor.
She said she didn’t call police because it's happened over there before. We’re told trouble has been trickling into the once secluded neighborhood; the kind of trouble that Klinedinst's friends tell me this hard-working father tried to stay away from. We asked Carlson if she knew of anyone that might want to hurt him.
“No, he was a good guy, didn't do anything wrong, he'd give you the shirt off his back,” said Carlson.
She said she believes the shooter was looking for someone else and got the wrong guy.
“The day he died I saw him three hours before, and gave him a hug and told him to be careful,” said Carlson.
JSO hasn’t made any arrests yet, but witnesses are cooperating with police. If you have any information call Crime Stoppers.
