Local forensic investigator charged with stealing from deceased
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An investigator for the medical examiner is under arrest.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Christopher Dwight Allen, 46, on charges of official misconduct, dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership on a pawnbroker transaction form.
Relatives of a woman from Hamilton County claimed some of her personal items had been stolen after her death. Those items included a ring, watch and necklace.
Investigators reviewed records at pawn brokers and discovered Allen sold 62 pieces of jewelry to pawn shops over the last 12 months.
Authorities believe some of the pawned items were taken from deceased victims that Allen had access to as a forensic investigator at the District 4 Medical Examiner's Office in Jacksonville.
