JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jeffrey Geeting and Jeremy Jackson don't play the lottery often. But when the Powerball hit almost $600 million, they figured they'd give it a shot.

"I said well what's the worst that could happen, I might win a hundred? A thousand?" questioned Jackson. "A million!" Geeting added with a laugh.

They're laughing about it now. but as they waited in line at this Winn-Dixie to buy a handful of tickets together, they didn't think anything would come of it. They even brushed off a man who cut in front of them in line.

"So, luckily for that," Geeting said.

Lucky is right. That night, as the numbers were called out ...

"He got quieter and quieter," Jackson said of Geeting. "He called out the first, we have the second, we have the third we have the fourth? We have the fifth! It was pretty ridiculous at that point because he's standing up in the living room jumping around like a crazy person."

The only number they missed was the Powerball. Their prize?  A million bucks.

"My boss sent me a message saying is this your resignation text. I said, 'No, this isn't job-quitting money. It's a good foundation for the future'," Jackson said.

Geeting will use his half of the winnings to pay for his 7-year-old daughter's college education. But she has something else in mind.

"A gold heart necklace," said Grace Geeting with a big smile.

Dad says that can certainly be arranged.
