NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. -- A local family is mourning the death of a loved one after he died in a freak accident in New York City. Andrew Schoonover was killed by a garbage truck after watching Sunday's Jags game, according to his sister.

Schoonover had lived in New York only 9 months. His family says, he moved there to be closer to his sister.

"He always had a new adventure to take me on, even though I'd been there for six years," said sister, Lauren Schoonover.

She was with her brother Sunday in Manhatten to watch the Jags vs. Raiders game at a local bar. She says they ate hot dogs and talked football. When the game ended, she went home, and he went somewhere else. That was the last time she saw her brother.

"He always let you know how he felt towards you, and he told me how lucky he was to have me as a sister, how much he loved me," she said.

Investigators said, Schoonover tripped over some trash bags on the sidewalk in front of a business and fell into the path of a garbage truck. Sanitation workers issued a summons against that business.

Now his family is at work planning his funeral. It's scheduled for this Friday evening at St. Paul's By the Sea Episcopal Church.

Schoonover was just 31 years old. He was a Stanton High and Flagler College graduate.

People like the previous two commenters are what is wrong with our country. A man has died, and the only thing you can think to write are insensitive comments? I am sure that if it was your brother, father, son, or friend you would consider it news. My heart goes out to the Schoonover family. RIP, Andy.
