Local man sentenced for home invasion shooting
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Christopher Lamont Black has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a home invasion shooting in Jacksonville.
The 21 year old was convicted in August on charges of Aggravated Battery, Armed Trespass, Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.
In June 2010, Black and two co-defendants forced their way into a home on Spring Park Road. Black fired multiple shots at 61-year-old Richard Bessent when he refused to give up his money. Bessent was able to grab a machete and swing at Black.
Black dropped his cell phone and gun before he and the two other suspects left the home. Cell phone photos helped police track down Black. Black's DNA was also found on the gun he left behind.
