JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Spencer Christopher celebrated his birthday early with a $679,278.26 payout from his winning "Season's Greetings" scratch-off ticket.
Christopher, 47, of Jacksonville, claimed his $1 million prize at the Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on Friday.
He bought the winner from a Racetrac off Normandy Boulevard on Jacksonville's Westside.
Christopher decided to celebrate his upcoming birthday by choosing a lump-sum payout.
The Florida Lottery says scratch-off games are an important part of the Lottery's portfolio -- comprising approximately 60 percent of ticket sales, and generating more than $575 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund in the fiscal year 2012-13.
