JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville mother wants answers that will help police find her son's killer. Genea Watkins saw her 18-year-old son, Adrian Watkins Jr., last Friday evening. He asked her if he could go to a hotel party near the River City Marketplace. It would end up being the last time she would ever see him.

"I just had this feeling. I told him, you know, just stay home because there were some things going on, but he was determined because he was 18 and left out and said 'Mom, I love you,'" said Watkins.

She says he was a good kid, loved his family and aspired to go to college for culinary arts. When he didn't come home, Watkins said, she got worried.
Hours later, her biggest fear became a reality.

"My heart just dropped. I went numb," said Watkins.

Her son's body was found in a ditch near Rutledge Pearson Elementary School, which is nowhere near where Adrian Watkins said he'd be.

"That's the hardest part for me to wrap my head around, that he was found like that. That someone would be so senseless to do that and just leave him there," she said.

In the two years they've lived in Jacksonville, Genea Watkins said, she's seen too many teens and young adults like her son fall victim to senseless crimes. All the more reason why she wants her son's killer caught.

Adrian Watkins' funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Feb.15. The family is asking that donations be made to VyStar Credit Union.
