JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- A local mother's tragic death, provided the gift of life for several others.

Monica Griffin was shot by her husband Robbie last Thursday in her home on Hickory Lane Ct. Robbie then turned the gun on himself.

While Robbie was killed instantly, Monica was rushed to UF and Shands Jacksonville in critical condition. She was placed on life support, but family members decided say goodbye to her on Friday evening. It was a tragedy in which they found some triumph.

Action News has learned that Monica, a woman who devoted her life to patient care at Baptist, was able to help heal others, even in her death. She donated her lungs, kidneys, and heart to several other people so they might live.

"If they want to donate, to help others, I think it's a great thing, I think it's a good thing," said neighbor Bud Wakeham.

Monica is survived by her two sons, her daughter and her grandson. Monica's daughter Brittany told Action News, she misses her mother dearly but feels blessed to now have a "beautiful guardian angel" watching over her.

Griffin's family is working to set up an account to help the children through this difficult time.
