JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- They're details that have some people shocked. An incident many say should have never happened.

"It's discouraging. I find that is a person of trust. We count on that and he's taken that away," Mike Stinton said.

Stinton works next door to Power of Faith Church where Elliot Lawson pastors. According to police, a big mistake led to Lawson's arrest.

During the wee hours, he drove past the Wyndham Hotel on Prudential twice, then stopped the car in the parking lot. He and a woman got out and walked towards the river.

When police went over to investigate the car, they saw a bag of cocaine on the console. According to the police report, when they confronted Lawson, he admitted it was his, and also produced three more bags of coke, hydrocone pills and marijuana.

Officers arrested Lawson on three charges, who were in an unmarked van--  used to deter crime.

Stinton says at this point, he realizes no one is above falling from grace.

"Seems to be the kind of thing that happens in the news anyway."

Lawson was released from jail on his own recognizance.

REPEND??? what in the world does that mean??? OHHH hang on, you mean Repen"T" with a T... let me guess, public schools and no religious training at all but the first to "convict" someone else when they make a mistake. Why would they ROR this guy, I think its pretty obvious and I also think a good move on the judges part... hes NON violent, a pillar of the community, and is truly not hurting anyone but himself(sure, go down the drug dealers bring crime and the travesties in Cuba road if you want but hes not KILLING some innocent Metro PCS worker) and he was honest about the whole deal. Theres a whole lot of addicts out there and NONE of them like being in that place... its a very powerful thing, addiction that is, that makes you into someone you are not who in turn does things that the person you know typically would not. so if this dude, who seems like a pretty good guy at the core, gets this little thing taken care of then good for him! He represents God, he is not however; God... lest us not forget that!!! Pastor Lawson, your going to need His help to get you through man and its not an easy road, but fight the good fight and never give up and youll be fine. Each day gets better after the first month or so, it didnt take overnight to get a habit, it takes more than overnight to get rid of it and sadly its not NEARLY as much FUN!!!

And just who's money did he use to buy all of those drugs? Think about that next time you put your hard earned dollars in the collection plate.

Doing drugs doesn't mean he's violent. Every pastor is human and this is not as bad as having ones that are pedophiles, or worse. I hope he can get his drug addiction under control. I also hope they didn't charge him as dealer, unless they can prove he intended to sell it. AS far as ROR is concerned I would rather have him on the street versus say a type that shot the young girl a few days ago.
