PALM COAST, Fla. -- Thousands of miles will not get in the way of Palm Coast's Jack Howell and 16-year old student pilot Cora Rand from helping others. The pair has raised $4,000 with non-profit, Teens-in-Flight, for Aurora, Colorado, movie shooting victims, and they're flying the funds there themselves.

"The idea was that the victims of the Colorado shooting needed some help and I felt that this was a teaching moment for the students in my program," said program director, Jack Howell. "One of the things that makes our country so great is that when people are hurting, we roll up our sleeves and we do what we can to help each other."

The team will make pit stops in Panama City, Memphis International, and Salinas Kansas, where they'll be refueled for free. That's four separate cities pitching in to help one.

"The opening of the hearts and the wallets of people we don't know that have come to our assistance is incredible," said Howell. "We've united them all to work on this goal that we had to help those people in need."

The philanthropist pilots take off Friday, and return on Saturday.

When the plane lands, the fundraising doesn't stop. Members have a goal of $10,000 and they'll be collecting donations on their website until they reach it.
