JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville gay rights activists celebrated a Supreme Court decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act Wedensday.
About 150 people walked the streets near the Federal Courthouse to show their support for same-sex marriage.
"Today is a day of victory," said James Eddy. "Any state that has legalized gay marriage can now use that to their advantage with the federal law."
Until now, marriage was defined as a union between a man and a woman, but that is no longer the case at the federal level.
"Florida doesn't have marriage for the LBGT community, and I feel like that's something that will happen. This is a big, giant leap, and our message is now that we're onto the next step," Eddy said.
