JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- They were hand made a half a world away, but in Neptune beach you won't need a plane ticket to get them. "We decided to come to Bali and get some ornaments that were actually handmade by children on the street," said Debbie Rossignoa.
Debbie is one of hundreds who walked into Bali Cargo for Small Business Saturday. It's a nationwide push to get more holiday dollars into small shops. "The owner actually goes to Bali twice a year and deals directly with all the people," said Betsy Mannino.
The National Retail Federation says the average american will spend $751 this Christmas. And specialty shops at the Beaches Town Center hopes some of it will be spent there.
"You know what an iPad looks like. You know what an iPod looks like. But these are those unique gifts that you are not going to find anywhere else," said Rossignoa.
"Our boat furniture, it's made from old Balinese fishing boats. You are not going to find that at Target," sais Mannino.
It's estimated that up to 70-cents of every dollar you spend in a small business goes right back in the community. "We are all surviving. We are all hanging in here, and it's important for the economy," said Mannino.
That's a holiday gift shoppers can enjoy long after the Christmas lights are put away. Small Business Saturday was started by American Express and the National Federation of Independent Businesses in 2010.
