JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Sweepstakes shops across Northeast Florida say they're running out of luck. They tell Action News they are feeling the heat as a bill to shut their doors for good passed another committee in Tallahassee today.
"I'm really worried," said Winners Sweepstakes employee Leticia Herrera.
Herrera has worked at the Southside sweepstakes center for more than two years. She says her boss has always run a respectable business, and that the backlash from the Allied Veterans of the World charity scandal is unwarranted.
"I think it's unfair because some people do things wrong, but that doesn't mean everybody does things wrong," said Herrera.
Loyal customers at Winners agree.
"I think it would be unfair to judge some other people by other people's business practices because they're not honest," said customer Mary Ann Smith.
For now, local shop owners can do little more than watch, wait and worry if they'll be able to stay open for business.
