CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A local physical education teacher has been arrested, accused of putting a student in a choke hold.
Michael Ford is a teacher at Oakleaf Junior High School in Orange Park. Investigators say Ford confronted a 13-year-old student he believed broke a chair at the school.
During the confrontation, investigators say the student denied breaking the chair, and that's when Ford threatened the teen. The student admits he cussed at Ford during the argument, and that's when police say Ford grabbed the teen, put him in a choke hold then pushed him against a guardrail.
A witness, who is a teacher at the school, told police Ford was trying to calm the student down at first. When that didn't work she says Ford threatened to put the teen "in the hospital" if he didn't cooperate.
Police decided to arrest Ford because they say the teen didn't use violence or make any threats during the altercation. Ford is being held on $753 bond. He has also been ordered to stay away from the student.
