JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Duval County school teacher is accused of sex crimes on three children.

Michael Worrell, 61, was hired as a substitute teacher in 2003.  He was promoted to a full-time fourth-grade teacher at S.P. Livingston in March of 2006.  Worrell also taught at Paxon Middle School from 2009-2011 and taught fourth grade at Greenfield Elementary until he was removed form the classroom on Aug. 22, 2012.

Worrell was arrested on Sept. 4, 2012.  According to the police report, three juveniles told police that Worrell sexually assaulted them in various hotels from 2006 to 2012.  The victims range in age from 9 to 13 at the time of the offenses.

A release from Duval County Schools reads, "The Duval Schools family is extremely concerned by the allegations against a teacher at Greenfield Elementary School.  Based on new processes and enhanced communication between the agencies, the district removed this teacher from the classroom immediately upon notification of an investigation into inappropriate behavior off campus."

@whosaysnocan... "What took so long for this one to get arrested?" He was black! They had to be politically correct at the expense of these innocent children!!!!!!! I hope you and your liberal friends are happy!!!

What took so long for this one to get arrested? There is something missing in this story. I realize removing him from the class room is the first thing to be done. Must side with the safety/protection of the children. If he is guilty of what he is being charged with, lock it up and throw away the key. His wife is defending him~one would think that after being married for over 2 decades, she would/should know something was not right in his behavior with the children. I pray for these children and for justice to be swift and punishment given.

First, OMGAWD!!! My husband came home and told me to pull up the news sites because our 3 youngest children go to Greenfield and when he went to pick them up there were news vans EVERYWHERE. My second comment regarding this would be that Greenfield is FANTASTIC; I don't plan on yanking my children out of there and I don't feel the school is to blame for this horrible sickening thing this twisted excuse for a human did. If there were no previous complaints and no red flags on his background checks, there would have been no reason to suspect him of anything. Please don't think I'm not sick to my stomach over the poor children this man victimized. I am, I feel the pedophiles who commit these crimes should be punished with the death penalty - because they never seem to stop at just one (although one child is too many). But I have to have faith that the other 99% of the staff will protect my 6 year old twins and my 9 year old son (who is in the school's Autism program). The alternative is to never let them leave the house.
