LAKE BUTLER, Fla. -- A Lake Butler Middle School teacher is embarking on a research mission in an effort to further knowledge on the Gulf of Alaska.

Robert Ulmer will spend the next several weeks mapping out the topography from Juneau to Kodiak, Alaska.

Ulmer will conduct research on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship Rainier.

NOAA allows teachers to accompany its crews on missions so that the educators can gain hands-on experience that they can bring back to the classroom.

Ulmer says he is excited about the trip and looks forward to sharing his stories, notes, picture and videos for all to witness.
