JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Everywhere you looked inside Jacksonville International Airport Tuesday there were families anxiously waiting for their loved ones to arrive.
For people like Oscar Candelario being back home is more of a relief.
"Considering I'm only here for 21 days and I go right back, I've been out there for three years now," said Candelario.
Candelario provides logistical support for the military in Afghanistan and his family has no idea he's home for the holidays.
"For Christmas my whole family from New York is out here and from the Dominican Republic all of them flew in. It's a family reunion so I'm going to let them know I'm here. I'm waiting on a buddy to come pick me up, so it'll be nice," said Candelario.
But had Candelario been scheduled to arrive on Wednesday his big surprise may have been ruined thanks to a major storm making its way to north Florida.
The National Weather Service is forecasting strong thunderstorm activity for our area after all the presents are opened on Christmas day. While the northeast is expected to get major snow storms. So if you do plan to travel this week make sure to pack some patience.
According to the Triple A more than 80 million travelers are expected to travel by car this holiday season but holiday air travel is expected to increase 4.5%.
Make sure to check with your airline before heading to the airport if you plan to travel this week.
