JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Duval County Health Department says a local woman has died from the West Nile Virus.

The death, according to the Centers for Disease Control, would be the nation's second this year.

The local victim was a 64-year-old woman.

Duval County has had eight confirmed cases of West Nile Virus this year.  One woman who contracted the virus told Action News earlier this week that she had never been this sick before.

The health department says your best bet against West Nile Virus is to "drain & cover."  Drain standing water in your yard, cover your skin with clothing and repellent, and cover your open windows and doors with screens to keep mosquitos out.

EMPTY ALL THE CONTAINERS ON YOUR PROPERTY THAT ARE HOLDING STAGNANT WATER> DO IT TODAY! You are breeding mosquitoes by NOT cleaning up your property. I'm not saying this local woman was at fault, I AM saying that most likely her neighbors have stagnant pools of water which are breeding mosquitoes. EMPTY ALL THE CONTAINERS ON YOUR PROPERTY.
