ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Residents in the Town of Orange Park could end up paying less in property taxes and more for being energy customers, if council members have their way.

Officials proposed a millage rate of 6.27 mils at this week's meeting but also approved a 4 percent fee increase for JEA customers in city limits.

According to the Clay County Property Appraiser's Office, the town would bring in more than $2.7 million in revenues, if the proposed millage rate is adopted.

Some 4,500 customers will be affected by the electric fee increase.

The final hearing for the proposed budget is scheduled for Sept. 17.

The new millage rate will go into effect Oct. 1.
