GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A local man has been arrested for the murder of his adoptive mother. On January 13, Roxie E. Scott-Kotb was found dead in her home at the Bivens Cove Apartments on SW 13th St. in Gainesville. An autopsy revealed that she died from blunt-force trauma to the head.

Her vehicle, a 2007 black Mercury Milan, her purse and credit cards were all missing. Family members told police they believed Scott-Kotb’s adopted son, Darryl Scott, stole his mom's car and may have killed her. Her car was found the next day during a traffic stop. The people inside the car told police Scott allowed them to use the car in exchange for crack cocaine.

Investigators say Scott was using his mom's stolen credit cards, and had stolen another vehicle from his job at Gator City Motors. Detectives followed the credit card activity, and arrested Scott in Orange County, Florida. Scott will be extradited back to Alachua County where he will be booked for Murder and Grand Theft Auto.
