JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Reports of gunfire brought police to the Canterbury Gardens Apartments on Lane Avenue around 3 a.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived they found Emanuel Robinson, 21, and Latricia Johnson, 21, dead. A third victim told police she played dead so the shooting would stop.
Assistant Chief Chris Butler said Keith Collins, 24, fired a gun at his friends because "he wanted that bed they were sleeping in."
"Robinson told him that he couldn't sleep in the bed. The suspect wanted the bed that they were sleeping in, wanted them to get out of it," said Butler. "So he shot them both multiple times. Then as Johnson tried to escape, he tracked her down and shot her multiple times."
Information from the living victim helped police track Collins down at a recording studio on Baymeadows Road, where he was arrested.
Collins is charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, murder and a possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The third victim has not been identified. Police say she's expected to survive.
