JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local man is facing federal criminal charges in the attempted murder of a judge.

Investigators say Aaron Richardson fired a shot from a rifle into the home of U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan.

The judge sentenced Richardson in 2008 for attempting to make an incendiary device.

After being released from jail, Richardson began serving a term of supervised release.

In 2012, authorities say Richardson made a number of false statements to his probation officer concerning arrests in Clay, Duval and Volusia counties.

In January 2013, Richardson appeared in court on a petition claiming he violated the terms of his supervised release.

Investigators say he continued to make false statements and failed to appear in court for several hearings in June.

Police say Richardson then stole a Savage Arms .30-06 rifle and ammunition from the Sports Authority store in Jacksonville.

Days later, investigators say Richardson fired the rifle into the home of Corrigan. No one was hurt.

Richardson is also facing 25 federal charges which include possession and discharge of a stolen firearm and possession.

The FBI said Richardson also impersonated a captain in the U.S. Navy.

Authorities say Richardson faces life in prison if convicted on all charges.

"My family and I deeply appreciate the concern and good wishes expressed by so many in the community," wrote Judge Corrigan in a statement.

We all know that a convicted felon is not allowed to have a gun, so this couldn't have possilbly happened. Just ask a gun control nut.
