LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Police have arrested Damien T. Morgan, 20, in connection with the sale of stolen coins to a rare coin shop.
Police said a man went to his car in the Windsong Apartments parking lot and found his collection of rare gold and silver coins had been stolen sometime before Sept. 5. The man called police and provided a description of the coins.
Investigators talked to the owner of North Florida Rare Coins and Bullion on Friday, and he gave them information about possible suspects. Later, the owner contacted authorities and said two suspects had come back to his store and sold more coins, which were identified as ones that had been stolen from the car.
Authorities contacted Morgan and a second suspect at Windsong Apartments. They arrested Morgan on charges of burglary, larceny, dealing in stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $50,000.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and that Morgan had made several recent trips to Jacksonville and Gainesville, returning with large amounts of money.
Police said Morgan used the false name "Doricko Simmons" when he sold the coins in Lake City.
