JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A jury has convicted a local man for the murder of a hotel employee.

Douglas Hayes was convicted Thursday for first degree murder and armed robbery.

Police say Hayes killed Vasudevbhal Barot last April after a plan to rob him of his money. Hayes and another co-defendant, Craig Roback, went to the Quality Inn on Dix Ellis Trail, off Baymeadows Road,  where Barot lived and worked. There, they tied him up and beat him, according to police.

Roback was convicted for first degree murder and armed robbery in May. Three other defendants, Mindy Lethco, Beau Graham and Jennifer Henn pleaded guilty to second degree murder and armed robbery.

Hayes will be sentence on August 13.

We need to increase the size of cemeteries and decrease the size of jails.
