JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man has been convicted of murder in the 2009 shooting death of a Baldwin man. Lee Antwan Johnson was found guilty on charges of Murder in the First Degree and Attempted Armed Robbery in the death of 22-year-old Kenneth Pittman.
In August 2009, Johnson and two co-defendants, Earl Johnson and Lamont Brown, went to Pittman's home in Baldwin intending to rob him. Evidence showed Brown drove Lee and Earl Johnson to the home. Brown stayed in the car while the Johnsons went to the door. When Pittman answered the door, he was shot in the chest. The trio then left the area.
Police say Pittman crawled outside of his home for help and died. Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office found the 9mm used to kill Pittman near the victim's home.
"Thanks to some highly effective police work, outstanding lab work by FDLE, and the conscience of the getaway driver, all three of the individuals involved have now been convicted," said Assistant State Attorney Rich Mantei. ASA Garrett Hill also prosecuted the case.
Brown pled guilty to a charge of Accessory After the Fact.
Earl Johnson pled to a charge of Second Degree Murder. Both will be sentenced next week.
Lee Johnson faces mandatory life in prison. He will be sentenced October 29, 2012.
