ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A local man convicted of killing his step-grandmother and breaking out of the Putnam County jail was sentenced to death Friday.

Timothy Fletcher was convicted in May of killing 66-year-old Helen Goog.

Back in 2009, 28-year-old Timothy Fletcher and his cell mate, Doni Ray Brown, used a jack to escape from the Putnam County Jail. Police say Fletcher then strangled his step-grandmother and stole her car during a home invasion.

The pair made it all the way to Kentucky and back before they were caught.

The murder happened in Putnam County, but the trial was moved to St. Johns because of all the publicity it received.

Putnam County Circuit Judge Carlos Mendoza sentenced Brown to life in prison with no possibility of parole Friday morning.

Fletcher was sentenced to death Friday afternoon.

This low life punk deserves the death penalty just too bad that won’t happen in a timely manner. For people as guilty as this punk is they should be marched out of the court room directly after sentencing and be executed on the spot.
