JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A crash on the Westside Friday afternoon proved to be fatal.
Derrian T. Amos, 25, was exiting from Interstate 295 into the westbound lane of Wilson Boulevard and had a flashing red light, according to a witness. Richard W. Britton was driving east on Wilson Boulevard and approaching a flashing yellow light.
The witness told the Florida Highway Patrol Amos made a left turn onto Wilson Boulevard, failed to yield to oncoming traffic and pulled in front of Britton's Saturn SL2, which struck the left side of Amos' Pontiac Grand Prix.
Britton, 56, was taken to Shands Medical Center but later died of his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Charges against Amos are pending.
