ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (WFTV) - A man was dragged during a carjacking outside of his home on Aston Circle in Ormond Beach, authorities said Friday.

Gary Taylor walked outside his house and saw the men stealing his SUV with a trailer attached, so he tried to stop them and grabbed onto a ladder attached the trailer.

"I just reacted. It was like, you know, I couldn't believe that my car was being stolen. It just totally caught me off guard because I consider this to be a safe neighborhood. But I guess no neighborhood is safe anymore," Taylor said.

At some point Taylor was let go from the ladder.

Officers said that the people inside the stolen SUV and another car that was following it drove to a home in Daytona Beach, where it was found abandoned.

Officers said a motorcycle cop spotted the other car and followed it.

They said the driver tried to run over the officer, who jumped off his motorcycle and fired one shot at the car.

Police were able to stop the car and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

Investigators said they are searching for at least two other people involved in the incident.

The teen's name was not released.
