PUTNAM CO., Fla. -- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says a man was found dead in a Putnam County lake Sunday morning.

The FWC tells Action News boaters reported an unattended boat in the area near the Rodman Dam near Lake Ocklawaha around 9 a.m.

The FWC says when Putnam County Sheriff's Office investigators arrived they noticed a truck parked in a parking lot near the dam. That's when they contacted FWC and initiated a search for missing boaters.

During the search investigators recovered the body of an elderly man who was believed to be alone on the boat that was found unattended.

That man has been identified as 71-year-old William Westmoreland from Interlachen.

Authorities are still investigating what caused Westmoreland to go overboard.

Is there more to this story? Did they find out what happened to the boater? What was the cause of death? If this man was William Harrell(sp) Westmoreland he was my uncle. My fathers twin brother. I live in Tallahassee and did not even know he was alive let alone in florida. Last I heard he was living in the caribbean somewhere. My email is westy_avro@yahoo.com Thank you Mark Westmoreland
