JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Dredrik Jhamar Simpson, 22, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with a 10-year minimum mandatory, for his December conviction on a charge of Armed Robbery.

He was also sentenced to five years for grand theft auto, five years for carrying a concealed firearm and 15 years for aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude an officer. These sentences will run concurrently.

In February 2012, the victim, who was driving a friend's car, pulled into her apartment complex and was approached by Simpson. The defendant pointed a gun at the victim while he took her car keys and purse. Simpson then fled in the vehicle.

Simpson was eventually caught by police with all of the victim's stolen property in his pockets. DNA evidence linked the defendant to the gun and the victim's stolen car.

Simpson also has six other armed robbery cases pending.
