JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was sentenced to life in prison today for a car wash murder in 2009.
Shawn Devernon Shanks was sentenced to life with a minimum mandatory of life in prison for the August 2009 murder of Willie Bell III.
Shanks, a three-time convicted felon, was found guilty on charges of murder in the second degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in September 2012.
According to police, Shanks got into a verbal argument with Bell at a car wash on McDuff Avenue. Two friends tried to convince Shanks to leave the area but Shanks refused. He pulled out a handgun and shot Bell in the face. Bell, 44, died at the scene.
Shanks has felony convictions for burglary and possession of cocaine.
