JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 52-year-old man was hit by a car crossing Roosevelt Boulevard on his motorized scooter near the Roosevelt mall Sunday morning.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Edward Roberts , a paraplegic, was using the crosswalk while the traffic light was green.

A 24-year-old female driver hit him as he was making his way across the southbound lanes.

Roberts was taken to UF Health, where he was pronounced dead.

JSO says no charges are being filed against the driver.

I have seen people on these things out in turn openings in the medians. THey are real hard to see if you aren't specifically looking for them. They need to understand that these aren't road vehicles and are not meant for operating on the streets. They are low profile, have no lights and no other signals to attract a drivers attention.

I am betting she is the wife, girlfriend, or daughter of a police officer. She was speeding to hit a guy in scooter.
