BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A man is serving a life sentence for what a judge called "his sexual exploitation of minors."

Stephen Keating, 53, was sentenced Monday to 110 years in prison for producing and distributing child pornography.

Evidence against Keating included repeated sexual battery against children under the age of 12 and distributing the photos over the Internet.

Prosecutors said Keating molested more than a dozen minors between 2009 to 2011 and was ordered to register as a sex offender.

The Justice Department said each count of child exploitation is a mandatory sentence of 15 to 30 years in prison, and distribution of child pornography is a mandatory sentence of 5 to 20 years.

"The hideous abuse Stephen Keating inflicted on more than a dozen children can never be erased, but hopefully his victims can find some comfort in the fact that he will never again be a free man," said Brock Nicholson, the special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Atlanta.

The charges against Keating came from investigations as part of Project Safe Childhood. Project Safe Childhood is a program led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
