JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man was sentenced Thursday to 23 years in prison for shooting his nephew at a New Year's Day birthday party.

Leephor Spivey was sentenced to 23 years on one count of attempted manslaughter with a weapon. He also received 23 years, with a three-year minimum mandatory, on a possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge. The sentences run concurrently.

Bryan Williams was shot three times and spent two months in the hospital for his injuries after an argument with Spivey at a family birthday celebration in 2012.

Spivey also has felony convictions for DUI and aggravated assault.
